The world historiography has so far paid attention to the well-known phenomena of PanSlavism and Austro-Slavism in connection with the unification process of Slavic nations. The author of this scholarly study defines the fundamental aims of each term and then points out the significant influence of the Slovak intelligentsia of the 19th century, standing in the origins not only of Pan-Slavism (Ján Kollár), but also of Catholic Slavism (Štefan Moyses), which were significantly followed and promoted in European society by the Croatian Bishop Jozef Juraj Strossmayer. The author describes the beginnings of Strossmayer’s collaboration with both Kollar and Moyses, as well as his change of attitude from Pan-Slavism through Austro-Slavism to Catholic Slavism, in which Moyses and Strossmayer played a decisive role. The study emphasizes the connection between the Slovak and Croatian national movements, which proves to be indicative for a better understanding of Slovak history, especially in the second half of the 19th century as well as in the first half of the 20th century. In the conclusion of the study, the author emphasizes the significance of the millennial celebrations of the arrival of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia, which were the beginning of the public manifestation of Catholic Slavism in the Habsburg Monarchy.

In this study, the author, based on the historical context of Cyrilo-Methodism in the 19th and 20th centuries, highlights the importance of Pope John Paul II for the Slavs and its importance in consolidating Cyrilo-Methodism in modern history through the publication of the papal letter Egregiae virtutis and the encyclical Slavorum apostoli. Great emphasis is placed on the contribution of John Paul II for the Slavic world by the declaration of Sts. Cyril and Methodius as patrons of Europe. Pope John Paul II contextualizes the Catholic Slavism of Leo XIII as its successor in the 20th century. By the declaration of Sts. Cyril and Methodius as patrons of Europe, according to the author, the Pope pursued two intentions: ecumenical and civilizing. He presented Sts, Cyril and Methodius in the context of Catholic Slavism as a civilizational and ecumenical bridge between the Catholic and Orthodox churches. John Paul II as the only Slavic pope on Peter‘s throne, he was the only one who could highlight the example of Sts. Cyril and Methodius for Western Europe, in search of Europe‘s spiritual roots. In this study, the author also points out the importance of the apostolic letter in the Slovak Catholic environment.
The author of this study presents the since unknown theme in the Slovakian historiography about the celebration of the 1100th Anniversary from the death of Saint Cyril in 1969 on the Spišʼs Diocese. This celebration was preceded by Pope Paul VI ś publication of the apostolic letter Antiquae nobilitatis, which he issued on February 13, 1969. This act of the Pope was a consolation for Catholics in Czechoslovakia and was an invitation to a pilgrimage of the Catholics to Rome on February 14, 1969, which, at the initiative of the Pope, had never been seen in the history of the Slavs since the famous Slavic pilgrimage in 1881 during the pontificate of Leo XIII. The impetus for the Cyril Methodist celebrations in the Spiš Diocese was the Liturgy of the Word, celebrated in the Slovak Institute of St. Cyril and Methodius in Rome. This was the impetus for the creation of the publication Oslavujme hviezdy jasné, distributed before the pilgrimage of the relic of St. Cyril in Spiš Diocese. The pilgrimage of the relic of St. Cyril on the territory of the Diocese of Spiš was held from June 1, 1969 to February 14, 1970. The study also discusses the course of historical research of the relic of St. Cyril in Spišské Podhradie.

The author initially describes the general situation within theological thinking prior to the pontificate of Leo XIII, characterized by a skepticism concerning the modern method of Catholic theology, especially Biblical Catholic theology. The approach within Protestant churches, where Biblical studies was much more evolved due to the use of the practice of historical-critical method, was very different. The pioneer in this approach within the Catholic Church was the French Dominican and Biblical theologian Jean-Marie Lagrange. The author of this study explicates how the publication of the encyclical Providentissimus Deus influenced Biblical research in general and opened the Catholic Church up to modernity.
