The village of Golęczewo near Poznań appeared for the first time in known sources in the year 1313. It was then that some Poznań burghers, most probably the descendants of the first head of the commune of Poznań, founded an 'altaria', a permanent stipend for a clergyman of the Poznań cathedral to offer the Holy Mass, endowing it among others with tithes from the farmland in Golęczewo. It is one of the oldest burgher foundations for the service of the altar in a cathedral. Subsequent information about this village comes from 1387 onward: the village was an estate of landed gentry. In the 15th century it became the property of the Sobocki family, the owners of several other villages in the neighbourhood, including the parish village of Sobota. The  church in Sobota was endowed by the Sobocki family and it is there, in the church or the adjacent churchyard that they were buried. Even until today the church in Sobota houses some beautiful epitaphs in the form of sepulchral  plates.
