The present analysis is made to investigate the effects of Hall current on the free convection flow of an incompressible, viscous fluid through a porous medium in a rotating system past an infinite vertical porous plate in the presence of a heat sink and a transversely applied uniform magnetic field. Solutions of velocity and temperature fields are obtained using the perturbation technique. Expressions for the skin motion and heat transfer are also derived. It is found that the increase in the magnetic parameter (M) decreases both the primary skin friction [...] and secondary skin friction [...] while an increase in the Hall parameter (m) decreases [...] but increases [...].

Everyday a number of people are launching new websites of which many are e-Commerce websites. E-Commerce website means business and to have business they have to be useful to the customer. So, it is very important for the e-Commerce site to get the trust of the customer. Or in other words the trustworthiness of an e-Commerce site is very important to have business. Usability can be increased by enhancing trust. How much a customer trusts a website becomes a fundamental question which beckons for an answer. More a customer trusts a website, more he will be using the website. This article includes a study on website usability, trust evaluation and how to improve trust to improve the usability of a website. Here we find the different factors that affect the quality of an e-commerce site. Based on these factors the trustworthiness of an e-commerce site is calculated using Matlab.

Ground improvement with granular piles increases the load-carrying capacity, reduces the settlement of foundations built on the reinforced ground and is also a good alternative to concrete pile. Granular piles or stone columns are composed of granular material, such as crushed stone or coarse dense sand. An analytical approach based on the continuum approach is presented for the non-linear behaviour of the granular pile. The formulation for pile element displacement is done considering the non-homogeneity of the granular pile as it reflects the true behaviour and also accounts for the changes in the state of the granular pile due to installation, stiffening and improvement effects. The present study shows that the settlement influence factor for an endbearing granular pile decreases with increase in the relative stiffness of the bearing stratum. The settlement influence factor decreases with increase in linear and non-linear non-homogeneity parameters for all values of relative length. For a shorter pile, the rate of decrease of the settlement influence factor is greater in comparison to that for a longer pile. Shear stress at the soil-granular pile interface reduces in the upper compressible portion of the granular pile and increases in the lower stiffer portion of the granular pile due to the non-homogeneity of an endbearing granular pile.

The paper deals with an unsteady two dimensional laminar slip flow of a viscous incompressible magnetomicropolar fluid past a semi infinite porous plate embedded in a porous medium. The flow is under the influence of a transverse magnetic field and heat source/sink. The free stream velocity follows an exponentially increasing or decreasing small perturbation law. The porous surface absorbs the fluid with time varying suction velocity. Expressions are obtained for velocity and temperature fields, mean angular velocity, skin friction and the Nusselt number.

Juvenile of Trichogaster lalius was reared under three photoperiod conditions (0L:24D, 12L:12D, 16L:08D) for 60 days to examine the growth performance under laboratory conditions. The maximum growth was observed in the juvenile of T. lalius exposed to 16:00 hrs. light. The mean body weight of different groups of juvenile fish exposed to different light conditions were significantly different (p<0.05) from each other which was observed from 20thday of the experiment. The absolute, specific, and relative growth rates were found to be maximum in the group exposed to 16:00 hrs. light duration. The present study indicated that 16:00 hrs. light duration was considered to be better for the growth of juvenile of T. lalius under controlled condition.

In this paper, Six Sigma approach is used for improving the quality process outputs in turning of Galvanized Iron. The objective is to optimize the turning parameters and maximize the MRR (Material Removal Rate). A L16 orthogonal array based on Taguchi experiments consisting of three controlling factors viz. spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, each with four levels as required in traditional DOE setting is used here. Taguchi’s parameter design offers an approach in Design of Experiments (DOE) with control parameters optimization to attain best outcome. An orthogonal array offers a set of balanced least experiments which help in data analysis and prediction of optimum results. For each experiment, the Material Removal Rate (MRR) is calculated. The Taguchi method results in reducing the quality characteristic variation due to uncontrollable parameter through the study of response variation using the Signal to Noise (S/N) ratio by the use of Minitab 16 software. Moreover, statistical investigation shows that standard deviation and mean value of confirmation run data are reduced when compare with before Taguchi design run data was performed.

Object ranking is one of the most relevant problems in the realm of preference learning and ranking. It is mostly tackled by means of two different techniques, often referred to as pairwise and pointwise ranking. In this paper, we present a case study in which we systematically compare two representatives of these techniques, a method based on the reduction of ranking to binary classification and so-called expected rank regression (ERR). Our experiments are meant to complement existing studies in this field, especially previous evaluations of ERR. And indeed, our results are not fully in agreement with previous findings and partly support different conclusions.

Background. Free radicals play a key role in the development of several pathological conditions. Therefore, antioxidants (AOs) are the first line of defense against free radical damage and are critical for maintaining optimum health and wellbeing. Objectives: To assess the perception of dental practitioners regarding use of antioxidants in oral health. Method. A cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted among 296 dental practitioners in Tricity (Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, India). A self-structured close-ended questionnaire was used to assess the perception of dentists regarding the use of antioxidants in their patients. It consisted of 12 questions with dichotomous response and five point likert scale ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the data, followed by the Chi-square test to check significant differences between the responses. Correlation between responses were analysed through the Spearman’s rank correlation. Statistical analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20 (Illinois, Chicago, USA). Results. A statistically significant difference was observed between genders, with females 181 (61%) having more knowledge than males 115 (39%) regarding the use of antioxidants in their clinical practice. It has been found that dental professionals in academics prescribes more antioxidants to their patients than the private practitioners. Postgraduates 76 (77.6%) had a higher level of knowledge than graduates 86 (43%). Conclusions. Knowledge about antioxidants should be highlighted in the health sciences curriculum. It is recommended to expand the use of antioxidants in oral health to bring down the burden of chronic diseases like periodontitis and catastrophic diseases like precancerous lesions and oral cancer.

Background. Tobacco use is the foremost preventable cause of death and disease in the world today and work strain might be related with nicotine dependence by its provoking effect. Objective. To assess the association between occupational stress and nicotine dependence. Material and methods. A cross sectional survey was conducted among 200 subjects visiting a satellite dental clinic of Swami Devi Dyal Hospital and Dental College, Barwala, Panchkula, India. Nicotine dependence was measured using the Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND). The extent of the stress factors experienced at work was assessed using the Effort-Reward Imbalance scale (ERI). Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis were employed for statistical analysis. Confidence level and level of significance were set at 95% and 5% respectively. Results. The results of bivariate analysis revealed association of occupational stress with age, marital status, educational status, level of nicotine dependence, frequency of cigarette smoking and religious attendance. However, multivariate analysis elicited the significant association of occupational stress with only two variables, level of nicotine dependence and frequency of smoking. Conclusion. Occupational stress was found to be associated with nicotine dependence in the present study implying a need of other tranquil measures to be incorporated for the relief of work related stress.
