This article presents the selected aspects of informal relations in network organizations. The aim of the paper is to show the role the informal relations play in network organizations. What is more, it also depicts the functions they have in these organizations and the effects of negative informal relations which result from choosing inappropriate personnel. It is a critical analysis of literature which was complemented with the results of three-stage empirical research on network organizations against the background of co-operation problems and flexible employment policy, which was conducted in the years of 2003-2010 in tourist agencies.

The civil service and broader the public administration, should be more often the domain of managers, politicians apart from lawyers. Classically, the public management has adopted a hierarchical basis, the slim organizational structure with many levels and a small span of management – commonly called a bureaucratic. Currently, the term 'bureaucracy' is a synonym for lazy, inefficient, although it originally meant specialization, formalization, centralization, and the continuity of tasks. The purpose of this article is therefore to compare approaches to the administrative department – the bureaucratic and managerial one. There is also the attempt to identify the Polish position on the background of the European Union in this regard.

The compliance assessment is a relatively new area of activity in the functioning of companies. It can be classified as the mechanism to support the internal control systems. The assessment consists in verifying the compliance of the provisions of internal regulations, adopted and used in companies, with binding law regulations. Compliance, therefore, involves systems and procedures designed to avoid legal risk, including civil and administrative penalties and, above all, criminal but also the risk of financial loss and the loss of reputation. The assessment of compliance, thus, aims at avoiding risk that may affect any economic entity as a result of its activities that do not conform to legal norms and standards in force.

The role of internal communications in enforcing the internal image is crucial, because opinions of participants in the organization are arising on the basis of subjective evaluations which next should be shaped on the basis of the verbal and non-verbal information exchange of the symbols, description, explanations and discussion.

Relating to the characteristics of the genesis and development of social responsibility - a new paradigm of management, the standards responding to the needs of its implementation were presented in this article. The most important include SA 8000, AA 1000 and ISO26000 standards. The guidelines of these standards could be useful to the leaders of the organizations intending to apply the indicated principles. These standards facilitate also the implementation of social and environmental problems as well as the stakeholders` service.

The paper presenting the method of assessing the work based on the of competence system. Amongst many used methods of assessing the work, method based on competence is still rather unpopular although is entering the new quality into the evaluation of the value of the work. This method is, from one side, guaranteeing the methodological correctness of the process itself, and on the other side is bringing a lot of benefits referring to very process (e.g. abandoning traditional criteria of the education), as well as of more late possibilities of using the effect of assessing of competence profiles. Assessing with using competence is opening the doors to later basics of the number of tools of staff management being based on a system of competences.

The incidence of network services in business environment necessitated a revision of heretofore used management methods. In consequence a virtual management concept was developed. Moreover, for the purpose of virtual organization, new communication systems have been worked adds up with their advantages but also threats. To fight those threats it is necessary to get acquainted with a specific category of emotional intelligence called "virtual emotional intelligence". Through a review of existing in literature definitions on EQ (Emotional Quality, Emotional Intelligence Quotient) – which encompasses intrapersonal, interpersonal and praxeological competences – this study identifies utility of those skills for the employees emotional and cognitive process of adaptation to conditions specific for virtual distance work.
