The aim of this article, dedicated to a German theologian Matthias Joseph Scheeben, is to introduce this nineteenth century man and his theological thought. Scheeben is considered by some to be a fitting example of authors who were able to reconcile the wealth of the Christian Tradition with various challenges of modernity. He does so by pointing to the supernatural origin of Christianity, its mysterious nature, while uniting, not opposing, the grace–faith with the nature–reason via the image of connubium.
