The type material of the ammonites described in F. Roemer's "Die Kreidebildungen von Texas und ihre organischen Einschlusse" (1852) is revised, and referred to Nowakites flaccidicosta (ROEMER, 1852), Texasia dentatocarinata (ROEMER, 1852), Placenticeras syrtale (MORTON, 1834), Texanites (Texanites) texanus texanus (ROEMER, 1852), Texanites (Texanites) roemeri (YABE & SHIMIZU, 1923), Mariella (Wintonia) brazoensis (ROEMER, 1852), Baculites asperoanceps Lasswitz, 1904, Baculites sp., and Scaphites (Scaphites) semicostatus (ROEMER, 1852).

The type section of the Sanandinovo Formation between the villages of Sanandinovo and Novachene in northern Bulgaria has yielded numerous ammonites from packages 7-9 of the sequence recognised by previous authors. The assemblage is: Tetragonites subtimotheanus WIEDMANN, 1962, Puzosia (Puzosia) mayoriana (D.ORBIGNY, 1841), Acanthoceras jukesbrownei (SPATH, 1926), Protacanthoceras tuberculatum tuberculatum THOMEL, 1972, Calycoceras (Newboldiceras) asiaticum asiaticum (JIMBO, 1894), C. (N.) asiaticum spinosum (KOSSMAT, 1897), C. (N.) planecostatum (KOSSMAT, 1897), Calycoceras (Proeucalycoceras) picteti WRIGHT & KENNEDY, 1990, and Scaphites equalis J. SOWERBY, 1813. The assemblage indicates the upper Middle Cenomanian Acanthoceras jukesbrownei Zone of Western Europe. We have seen no evidence for either older or younger Cenomanian ammonite zones from the sequence.

The occurrence of organic soil cover in river valleys is typical regions that were to areal deglaciation. This feature results from the adaptation of a series of linear depressions of glacial melt-out origin by rivers for their flow. Such a series of depressions, primarily composing overflow lakes, underwent subsequent infilling with mainly lake and marsh deposits. These very thick deposits, characterised by high sorption potential and developed in the form of continuous structures, can be considered as effective protection layers, isolating groundwater from contamination.
