Speaking is one of competencies in the acquisition process of a foreign language, which is often the most desirable. Expressing opinions and views with ease, coping with everyday situations, interacting with the members of a new cultural community are the key needs and in order to meet them it is indispensable to verbalize thoughts. The article shows how to plan and conduct class activities which develop speaking skills based of chosen theories. The paper presents a lot of practical and methodological solutions, techniques, games and conversational tasks.

The article is a description of PhD thesis The Role of Language Politeness and its Role in Higher Language Competence: The Case of Polish. This study aims to identify the most important aspects of Polish language politeness and sociolinguistic codes when Polish is being acquired as a foreign language. This politeness was investigated in the broadest sense of its meaning. In other words, I highlights an important area of second language learning that is not often addressed in textbooks and course syllabii in spite of the importance of learners acquiring culturally inclusive, sociolinguistically appropriate communication skills in the target language. Based on different linguistic theories as well as on anthropological, psychological and sociological theories, this study shows that grammar and lexis (even a broad vocabulary) are not sufficient to attain an excellent command of a foreign language, in this case of Polish. Fluency and freedom of utterance depend on immersion in the target culture.

• In the article, the author challenges the way intercultural competence is shaped by food customs. Many cultural rituals are centered around the preparation and serving of food and drinks. Getting to know all of those habits typical for a specific cultural community can be very useful when someone wants to get know a new language as well as a new culture. As a result, one's intercultural communicative competence will increase. In the theoretical part, the outlined steps should be taken into consideration, in order for the instructor to create a module dedicated to food during Polish language and culture classes for foreigners. The practical part involves showing tasks and exercises by introducing general and specific Polish traditions connected with food.

In this article the author discusses her work experience at the Icelandic University (HáskóliÍslands) in Reykjavik during two semesters of the 2015/16 yearwhen she was teaching there. Anna Rabczuk taught Polish language and Polish culture to Icelanders and other foreigners. The experiential story enriches the reflection on the country and its inhabitants.

The article presents methods of teaching expressions of reason and purpose in Polish language. The authors propose exercises which both teach characteristic Polish reason and purpose clauses (A and B level) and present an arsenal of semantic means to express those relations (B and C levels) . Tasks end with the exercises for the most advanced students, who are supposed to construct longer texts with a clear, detailed account of the course of events along with information of reason or purpose.

The article describes a few channels to learn Polish as a foreign language on YouTube. It displays how YouTube videos can impact the human brain and how they can help students in the learning process. Moreover, the article shows both advantages and disadvantages of using the particular videos. A part of them can help e.g. to do dictation exercises or to extend lexical resources. On the other hand, there are a few videos which can confuse students by an unclear or vulgar content.
