Transport jest złożonym systemem, warunkowanym wieloma czynnikami wewnętrznymi i zewnętrznymi. Jego kondycja wpływa na sposób funkcjonowania państwa, determinując możliwości rozwoju gospodarczego i potencjał obronny. Celem artykułu jest wykazanie, że prawidłowo prowadzona polityka inwestycyjna w transporcie ma ogromne znaczenie nie tylko dla gospodarki, ale i dla obronności państwa. Cel realizowano poprzez przeprowadzenie analizy teoretycznej w odniesieniu do pojęcia systemu transportu i jego uwarunkowań, a następnie analizy empirycznej głównych gałęzi transportu z punktu widzenia obronności: transportu drogowego i kolejowego. Pozwoliło to sformułować kilka wniosków. Polska po latach dostosowywania swego systemu transportowego do minimalnych wymagań współczesnego państwa powinna, współtworząc europejski system transportowy, jasno określić swe priorytety i dążyć do ich realizacji. Należy poważnie rozważać konsekwencje każdej decyzji w zakresie modelowania przebiegu międzynarodowych szlaków komunikacyjnych, ponieważ są to decyzje nieodwracalne, które rzutują na sytuację geopolityczną przez wiele dziesiątków lat.

Transport is a complex system, conditioned by many factors both internal and external. This condition affects the functioning of the state, thus determining opportunities for economic development and defence potential. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that a properly conducted policy of investment in transport is of great importance, not only for the economy but also for the defence of the state. The aim was achieved by carrying out theoretical analysis in relation to the concept of the transport system and its determinants, and empirical analysis of the main modes of transport from the point of view of defence: road and rail transport. This made it possible to formulate some conclusions. Poland, after years of adapting its transport system with the minimum requirements of the modern state, co-created a European transport system to clearly define its priorities and strive to achieve them. These issues need serious consideration in any decision regarding modelling the course of international routes, as this can have serious consequences due to irreversible decisions which affect the geopolitical situation for many decades.

Purpose: The purpose of the series of research is drawing up an alternative armour plate with the composite structure, which would be resistant to 7.62 and 5.56 caliber bullets fired from the weapons the Polish army is equipped with. Design/methodology/approach: The research embraced the composite materials with epoxy matrix reinforced with the fiberglass in the shape of mat or fabric, and steel mesh. Three sheets of epoxy-glass composite were made on which ceramic panels were glued. Findings: The result of the presented work is the assessment of the quality of examined samples. As a criterion was adopted the behaviour of the material under the shellfire, its defragmentation, puncture and destruction. Research limitations/implications: The research was limited to composite materials with the epoxy matrix and reinforcement of fiberglass in the form of mat or fabric. In the next stage of the research the application of aramid fibers reinforcement is planned. Practical implications: Practical implications Worked out the construction material systems make the basis for further analysis and optimization of materials applied as the alternative for heavy army vehicles. Such application enables the minimization of the weight of a vehicle. Originality/value: Paper presents innovative composites polymer materials applied for ballistic protection of lightweight armed vehicles.
