In the Footsteps of Livingstone in the Zambezi Basin - Exotic Tourism or/and Literary Tourism

Abstrakty
The terms "exoticism" and "exotic" are often associated with travelling and tourism, but this does not necessarily involve visiting other continents or distant regions of the country, but going to all places - even those located nearby - that are perceived by a given person as exotic. The main topic of the article is exotic tourism in the part of South Africa where the British explorer and missionary, David Livingstone, traveled in the mid-19th century. D. Livingstone included his memories of this travels in a book published in 1857. Being inspired by this work, the author of the article visited some of the regions and places described by D. Livingstone. Using the example of Sangwali in Namibia and the Ngonye waterfalls and the Barotse floodplain in Zambia, he demonstrates the existence of connections between exotic tourism - treated as a form of cultural tourism - and literary tourism. The analysis carried out using the introspective method allowed us to put forward the thesis that exotic tourism may contain elements that allow it to be considered educational tourism, which in this specific case means tourism inspired by the life and literary works of D. Livingstone. (original abstract)
