Estonia's Foreign Trade

Abstrakty
Estonia należy do najmniejszych krajów Unii Europejskiej. (fragment tekstu)
The article analyses Estonia's foreign trade compared with other Baltic states, as far as the general commodity and geographical patterns of foreign trade are concerned. Estonia established a very liberal trade regime early in the transition process, which compares favourable not only with the rest of the former Soviet Union, but also with the Central and Eastern European countries (who started the transition period earlier) and the world at large. This fact led to a very quick reorientation of Estonian trade flows to the West. At present, Finland is Estonian largest trading partner. An open FDI regime attracted many Finnish and Swedish investments. Approximately 70 percent of direct investment to Estonia comes currently from Finland and Sweden. Estonia has a diversified production base with many small and medium-sized companies, including those in high value-added sectors, such as IT. The author analyses an impact of the crisis on Estonian trade flows and assesses the significance of joining by Estonia the euro zone on the 1 st of January 2011. (original abstract)
