The Image of the naxalite Movement in Hindi Cinema
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
The Naxalite movement is a Maoist-inspired revolutionary guerilla, which has been operating in India since 1967. As this subject has been present in the public debate for many years, it is not surprising that it was taken up by several writers, artists and by Indian cinematography. The aim of this paper is to analyse what image or images of Naxalites are presented in three selected Hindi movies: "Hazār caurāsī kī mā̃", "Hazārõ xvāhiśẽ aisī" and "Red Alert". Most unexpected outcome of this research is the fact that all of them present a relatively positive image of the movement. However, they do not seem to be a biased, political propaganda.
