The outline of the history of conservation activity on the territory of Grudziądz

Abstrakty
The article briefly discusses the early beginnings of creating a conservation thought on Polish territory as well as activities undertaken in the field of monument restoration in the countries which committed partitions of Poland. The participles of monument protection, legal regulations and the condition of conservation service are discussed in the later part of the article. This issue is talked over on a larger scale in the period after World War II, when the adequate legal regulations came into being, assuring the right monument preservation; there arose the State Monument Restoration Offices on the country’s territory carrying out repair works as well as a substantial background at the Nicolaus Copernicus University came into being, in the form of specializations in monument preservation and restoration. In the article, there is also the information referring to restoration activity of the first Municipal Conservator of Monuments in Grudziądz – Jerzy Feldman, who was also the Director of Grudziądz Museum. The content of the article covers discussion of restoration works carried out in one of major Grudziądz monuments – the Water Gate.
