After the January Uprising, Lublin, overwhelmed by the invader with its ruthless Russification policy, slowly began to recover from the economic collapse in 1864, and to develop, particularly in terms of economic and social relations, but also in terms of demography and urban planning. The Industrial Revolution, new workplaces, and the development of cultural life, all undoubtedly allowed society to take an active part in the upcoming political events which would be ground-breaking for Poland. This article presents selected historical episodes, such as the development of political groups, the creation of the scouting movement, the functioning of Lublin under Austrian rule, and the Act of 5 November 1916, until the establishment of the Government of Ignacy Daszyński here in the first days of November 1918, which gave Poland a chance to free itself from the rule of the oppressors and to break the fetters and ties of occupation.

Люблин, угнетаемый после январского восстания безжалостной политикой русификации, в 1864 г. начал медленно выходить из экономического упадка и развиваться, особенно, в области экономических и социальных отношений, а также демографически и урбанизационно. Промышленная революция, новые рабочие места и развитие культурной жизни, несомненно, позволили обществу активно участвовать в грядущих революционных политических событиях в Польше. В статье представлены избранные исторические эпизоды, в т.ч. развитие политических групп, формирование скаутского движения, функционирование Люблина в условиях австрийской оккупации, от акта 5 ноября 1916 г. до создания здесь правительства Дашиньского в первые дни ноября 1918 г., что дало Польше шанс освободиться от власти захватчиков и разорвать оккупационные путы и цепи.
