Abstrakty
A set of artifacts was revealed in the basement of the former Korzeniewski Trading House in Grudziądz at Rynek 22/24. Its contents are the following: two prayer ropes, a figure of Crucified Christ, a thurible, a key, a cauldron for storing embers (patelle) and a ceramic mug. These items were wrapped in a textile wrap, probably liturgical fabrics. All these artifacts were used to celebrate the liturgy and to practice private devotion. They include sacramentals, i.e. sacred objects. The location of the discovery site allows for a presumption that they were associated with the furnishing of the Grudziądz church. St. Nicholas. During the Soviet offensive conducted from February 18 to March 5, 1945, 60% of the church of St. Nicholas was damaged. Perhaps then the objects that were discovered in 2010 had been hidden. The reason for the concealment can be seen in the coming war. Perhaps the deposit was not taken back because of the death or emigration of the clergyman. Of course, it cannot be ruled out that the collection was a hidden booty of a common thief or someone who did not provide knowledge about this deposit. The universality and conservatism seen in the form of the discovered artifacts is the reason that hinders our possibilities of dating them. All of the discussed items are produced today in unchanged form. The deposit in question can be dated back to after 1832–early 1945.
