Abstrakty
The article draws on text analysis within the methodological framework of modern genology to examine the ways in which a given text can be matched within various subclasses of a broadly defined genre. A passage chosen on the basis of its theme is placed within the class of travelogues, and then assigned to one of its subclasses/genres. The latter usually represent a spectrum from the more germane to the more peripheral. The nature of the relations between the forms thematizing travel are then determined by means of criteria which refer to various categories and facets of the text. The narration of 'Going to Babadag' combines the characteristic features of a number of genres, eg. a (travel) report, memoirs, (travel) diary, (travel) essay, (travel) guide. At the same time the features of any of those genres are subject to modification. In effect, we experience an author who creates his singular image by an unconventional approach to the typology of text structures, though, it should be made clear, without questioning the overall system of genres or redefining their markers. In 'Going to Babadag' he explores the potential of individual genres, their range, and their capacity to accommodate heterogeneous elements.
