Communication in today's workplace is far more difficult than ever because of the growing numbers of different cultural groups entering the workforce. It is, therefore, inevitable that many people will encounter communication barriers. Language barriers and cultural misunderstandings can often get in the way of effective communication, so it is crucial to develop expertise in crosscultural communication. Giving a presentation or speech to an international audience is difficult. It requires expertise in the subject, absolute attention to the words used, the tone and the needs and culture of the audience members. Audiences do not have the luxury to rewind a fragment of your speech or play it again or slow it down. Get it right the first time.(original abstract)
