The female involvement in governance management represents the key initiatives in politics and business and belongs to the most dynamically developing themes in society and economy studies. Various approaches explain and support the presence of women on corporate boards. This trend to stimulate the presence of women on boards is widely observed in the European Union, Eastern Europe, the US, Asia and Latin America. Several countries implemented tailored regulations on quotas, reporting guidelines or best practice codes, yet the company reactions are slow and heavily embedded in the existing cultural and social norms as well as in the institutional environment. The goal of the paper is to identify the participation of women on corporate boards on the sample of Polish companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange using the unique hand collected data derived from annual reports. The paper intends to trace the presence of women on boards in Poland within the dynamic analysis documenting the changes in the years 2008-2014. Finally, the paper attempts to answer the question of the impact of the best code recommendations on the equal gender participation in management and supervision of the actual presence of women on boards and the board functions they play.
