At-home mothers represent a sizable market of potential students for online programs, totalling 11.2M in the U.S. in 2004 and growing. This paper aims to provide a profile of the at-home mother as a potential online education student, in order to better understand this market and improve the online education services to it as a result. We attempt to draw out common characteristics that many in this group share. We then suggest ways that online institutions can tailor their programs to attract this group and meet their needs more effectively. (author's abstract)
