An overhaul of the world structural problems requires important and difficult economic and political decisions. They are to be taken both in the developed world and in the emerging markets. Euro zone debt troubles seem to point to the core of the problem. On the one side, we have old welfare system economies and, on the other, saving nations, which for some time have been financing consumption in the developed world. In order to effectively address the issues of external and internal imbalances, major players will have to be capable of assuming difficult political decisions, which at the end will change the cost-benefits structure of the world economic picture.
