Excess male mortality is a surplus of the intensity of males' deaths over the females' deaths and it is a natural occurrence. Thd authors have shown the classification of general and partial excess male mortality coefficients by means of the k-means method in two schemes:
- dynamic - in years 1971-1995 according to the age groups;
- spatial - in years 1990-1995 according to voivodships.
In the dynamic scheme although some of the partial excess male mortality were increasing, there were separated four sub-periods. Furthermore, stronger dynamics of increase of male excess mortality in the age groups of 20-34 and 50-64 was observed. In the spatial scheme there were separated three groups of voivodships with low, typical and high levels of the excess male mortality coefficients. The authors have recognised that the main reason of such a division was the age structure of voivodships. Voivodships demographically younger have higher excess of male mortality.
