Abstrakty
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badania wizerunku Warszawy tkwiącego w świadomości przedsiębiorców prowadzących działalność gospodarczą w stolicy. Omówiono aktywne elementy składające się na obraz stolicy oraz zalety inwestycyjne tego miasta. Zaprezentowano również wady prowadzenia tam działalności gospodarczej – wysokie koszty nieruchomości oraz pracy.
Given the growing competition among cities and the increasing importance of globalization, many cities around the world constantly "repackage" themselves and their resources in an attempt to present an attractive image. This is done in order to successfully compete for international status that can help in attracting tourists, immigrants, and investors. The aim of this article is to present findings about Warsaw's image among business people. Over 100 questionnaire responses acquired from business people were used to qualify components (cognitive and affective) of the city's image. Research has shown that Warsaw has a distinct and favorable image among business people. According to research findings, Warsaw is associated with its principal function as the capital city of Poland. It is also associated with transportation problems and certain symbols (Warsaw Mermaid, Warszawa). The other important component of Warsaw's image is the city's role as a symbol of a capital city. The most popular Warsaw symbols for business are the Palace of Culture and Science, the Royal Castle, and the Grand Theatre. In terms of the inhabitants' perception of the city, the capital city is seen as a rather comfortable place to live. The city also has an ugly downside. Some perceive it as being not too modern and affected by poverty. Most of the business people polled perceived Warsaw as the most attractive Polish city to invest in. Research tends to show that, for the most part, Warsaw is characterized as an accessible city with a good "external" transportation network and a large consumer market. The main problems identified by Warsaw business people are extensive bureaucracy, local traffic problems, high cost of real estate, and high employment costs. (original abstract)
