When planning an investment and choosing financing sources it is very important to estimate suitably the present situation of the analyzed objects. What plays an essential role in the area of horticulture is the volume of production whose financial surpluses are directly related to the possibility of making indispensable investments. This article presents the area, crops and the size of production in 60 farms growing vegetables under covers in Wielkopolska district. The farms have been divided into categories according to their investing activity and the sources of financing their investments. There have been no significant differences in the economic effects between the investing and the non-investing farms. Within subcategories of investing activity the farms using outside sources of financing turned out to be the most effective which is worth noting down while planning financial strategy in this field.
