We wstępie artykułu omówiono trendy występujące w sektorze turystyki kongresowej i konferencyjnej. Następnie, wykorzystując analizę SWOT określono mocne i słabe strony Wrocławia jako centrum turystyki kongresowej oraz wskazano możliwości jego dalszego rozwoju.

Congress type of tourism makes up a significant part of the business tourism market. Its development requires meeting numerous conditions from both the organisers of congress tourism events and the locations in which they take place. Wroclaw has been listed among towns, which may become the venue for the organisation of this kind of events in Poland. The decisive factors are the present economic, intellectual and cultural potential of the town, as well as the material back up for the development of the town's congress tourism. Upgrading Wroclaw's attractiveness as the congress tourism centre requires, among others, carrying out investments for the benefit of congress tourism, popularizing the town both in domestic and foreign markets, defining the role of this form of tourism in Wroclaw's developmental strategy and taking up efforts to obtain the formal rights for the organisation of the EXPO 2015 exhibition.
