Abstrakty

Integracja europejska nie stworzyła społeczności europejskiej, w związku z tym Europa pozostaje wielopaństwową i wielonarodową jednostką. W artykule zaprezentowano rozważania socjologiczne dotyczące warunków konstruowania więzi europejskich umożliwiających wyposażenie społeczności europejskiej we wspólne założenia społeczno-organizacyjne i kulturowe.

European integration has not generated - at least to date - a European society. It has not produced any of the structural components of linkages characteristic of real socio-cultural systems as described in social science. Europe has neither become a super-state, nor a super-nation nor a super-society. It is not even distinct as a civilisation. It remains a multi-state, multi-national entity; an economic aggregate - from which the entire process began - rather than a societal organism. Official discourse on integration focuses on the economic and political benefits of cooperation, opportunities for joint action despite manifold divisions, minimisation of conflicts as well as possible unification processes. In the public consciousness, therefore, the dominant image of the EU is that of an area in which there co-exist allied yet separate societies, cultures and nations that are not linked to each other by means of an overarching, unequivocal conviction. However, the issue of the forms and conditions for the construction of pan-European linkages capable of endowing this heterogonous entity with a primary set of common and relatively widely accepted socio-organisational and cultural foundations, constitutes an important element of the sociological reflections presented in this article.
