Spectroscopic Analysis of Elemental Composition of Silver Junctions from the Early Interior Groups in Gdańsk
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
The elemental composition of silver gilded item was analyzed using non destructive X-ray fluorescence technique (XRF). Measurements were carried on in three characteristic areas on the object: gilded surface, surface originally covered with gold from which the coat layer was removed by the action of various natural factors and reverse side of the object. All measurements were carried on without removing the surface patina since that’s why the XRF results contains not only information of the alloy composition but also coating and patina composition. Performed analysis confirmed that the junction is made from silver. Other elements such as Fe, Cu, Zn, Sn, Pb and Hg appear in surface layers or may be alloy components (Fig. 1, 2 and Table 1, 2). The presence of mercury in the gold layer indicates the application of the gold-plating method based on fire gilding.
