Zwiększająca się liczba ludności muzułmańskiej w Europie wpływa na wzrost nastrojów antymuzułmańskich oraz rozwój partii islamofobicznych. Islam od początku był nierozerwalnie związany z historią kontynentu europejskiego a ludność muzułmańska stała się elementem krajobrazu Europy Zachodniej zwłaszcza od połowy XX wieku, z jednej strony wzbogacając dorobek kulturowy kontynentu, ale też stając się źródłem napięć, konfliktów na styku dwóch cywilizacji. Radykalny islam przybiera niekiedy formy działań terrorystycznych.

The increasing number of Muslim population in Europe affects the growth of anti-Muslim attitudes and development of islamophobic political parties. From the beginning Islam has been inextricably linked with the history of the European continent and Muslim population became a part of the landscape of Western Europe especially since the mid- twentieth century; on the one hand, enriching the cultural heritage of the continent, on the other hand, becoming a source of tension and conflict at the junction of two civilizations. Radical Islam has even become a terrorist threat.
