The following paper presents the problem of relations between the Polish elites and the local Wolyn administration after the failure of the November Uprising and the incorporation of the region of Wolyn to the Russian state. Based on a variety of examples from the history of the Western parts of the Russian empire, the author is trying to introduce to the complexity of the Russian national politics and ideology towards a very attractive Polish culture.
