In May 2014, attention of American and global public was captured by highly publicized conflict between powerful online retailer Amazon and publisher Hachette. It is yet another phase of struggle, which will decide the future of book and e-book market – and thus, influence the circulation of thoughts, ideas and art. Both sides use diverse economic, juridical and social tactics and try to win favour with smaller agents, like writers and readers. In this light, it is important to ask questions about the role of state regulations and desirable outcomes of the conflict.
