Article focuses on the internal audit function in the perspective of the concept of New Public Management. Publication divides on four principal segments. At the beginning I describe of management theory in the public sector. Then I present the internal audit function in the public sector. In the next section, based on theory and research I show the need for internal audit. The last aspect is to present key elements of an effective audit function.
