Abstrakty
In the Neolithic at the Gdańsk Bay appears a population which starts a large-scale exploitation of marine resources. In the literature it is accepted that one of the main activities of these communities was seal hunting. This is indicated by finds of bones of these animals discovered during archaeological excavations, mainly in the settlement in Rzucewo. According to the available sources and analogies seal hunting was rather ad hoc and seasonal activity, while the main occupation was fishing. It is assumed that seals were hunted with harpoons, but almost complete lack of this type of objects indicates that seal hunting was carried out probably by simpler methods. Seals were not hunted in distant places, but in the vicinity of the settlement in Rzucewo. Despite numerous excavations and an increase of archaeological sources, this culture can be regarded as not fully recognized. Many issues related to the Rzucewo culture still require detailed studies.
