According to the Orthodox Church doctrine, the Church has its historical roots in Pentecost, together with the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. The Orthodox Church is a continuation of the community which was born on Pentecost. Orthodox faith is based on the transmission of tradition, understood as fidelity to the spirit of the early Church. Holy tradition, for the Eastern Orthodox, is the deposit of faith given by Jesus Christ to the Apostles and passed on in the Church from one generation to the next without addition, alteration, or subtraction. This Holy Tradition is expressed even in the monuments of literature, art, liturgy, canon law, and customs. In fact, the Holy Tradition is the whole system of Church structure, teaching, spirituality, and art. However, Holy Tradition is not a closed entity. In order to preach the truth of Christ, the Church used various cultural forms, appropriate for different groups. This adaptation of the way Church teachings are transmitted is called enculturation. The most increased enculturation processes are evident among the Orthodox communities with the highest number of contacts (interactions) with communities with whom there is a variety of cultural differences. Most of these interactions occur in the case of the diaspora communities (parishes).
