Lēdurga pastorate existed already in 1619. Unique cartographical material is a land plan of Lēdurga, which was drafted in 1689. In 1769, in the family of Lēdurga Lutheran congregationpriest D. Merkel, the sixth child — Garlieb Helvig Merkel — the author of the culture historically significant book Latvians, especially in Vidzeme, at the end of phylosophical century, was born. He was an outstanding personality of the enlightment, publicist and social worker. The management of the pastorat was influenced by the land reform in Latvia. That is depicted in the documents of land division of the manor house. A unique object in Lēdurga pastorate was the old dwelling house, which was supposedly built in the middle of 18th century and has not remained till nowadays. Rapid changes happened in the pastorate during the beginning of the Soviet times. All the land was taken away from the congregation excluding the land around the church. The priest had to leave the house. That was the beginning of destruction of the building, since the house had lost its landlord. In 2000, the pastorate consisted of dwelling house, barn, cattle-shed and servants’ house. The dwelling house was transformed into an apartment house which is the most destructive use of historic buildings. In the 1990s, the congregation regained its property. The inhabitants continued to reside in the house and its technical condition became worse. In 2004, the house was completely destroyed by fire. Thus Latvian culture historical environment had become much poorer. The building was a typical construction of Vidzeme pastorates which could give a lot of information for further generations on the atmosphere in the pastorate and its priests, their families and people, who worked in this place, their belief and love.
