The article deals with a number of issues related to the monetary policy of Hong Kong – a region that plays a special role in the world economy. Hong Kong, a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China, attracts the attention of investors from around the world. Its attractiveness results not only from the geographical location, but above all from the transparent tax system, and most importantly – and on what the presented paper focuses on – the constant exchange rate of the current currency – Hong Kong dollar – against the US dollar. The article provides the answer to the question: does the economic growth resulting from Hong Kong’s currency regime work for the benefit or disadvantage of the economy as a whole? In the main part of the paper, after presenting a short historical outline of Hong Kong, an analysis of its importance as an intermediary in financial and commercial operations is presented. Due to the similarities in structure, the Hong Kong economy was compared to the Singapore economy. The author shows the operation of the Hong Kong dollar currency regime and exchange rate policy. Finally, on the basis of the analysis performed, a further perspective of Hong Kong’s position in the global economy is presented.

Artykuł porusza szereg zagadnień związanych z polityką pieniężną Hongkongu – regionu odgrywającego szczególną rolę w gospodarce światowej. Hongkong, specjalny region administracyjny Chińskiej Republiki Ludowej, przyciąga uwagę inwestorów z całego świata. Jego atrakcyjność wynika nie tylko z położenia geograficznego, ale przede wszystkim z przejrzystego systemu podatkowego. Artykuł skupia się na zagadnieniu stałego kursu obecnej waluty – dolara hongkońskiego – w stosunku do dolara amerykańskiego. Autorka próbuje odpowiedzieć na pytanie: czy wzrost gospodarczy wynikający z reżimu walutowego Hongkongu działa na korzyść lub niekorzyść całej gospodarki? W głównej części tekstu, po przedstawieniu krótkiego zarysu historycznego Hongkongu, dokonano analizy jego znaczenia jako pośrednika w operacjach finansowych i handlowych. Ze względu na podobieństwa w strukturze, gospodarkę Hongkongu porównano z gospodarką Singapuru. Autorka ukazuje działanie reżimu walutowego dolara hongkońskiego i polityki kursowej. Na koniec, na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy, przedstawia dalszą perspektywę pozycji Hongkongu w gospodarce światowej.
