Abstrakty
The topic of this article is one of the exhibits of the Grudziądz Museum – the Hindi dagger, so-called katar, stored in the Department of History. The object is registered in the inventory without annotation on when and how it was included in the Museum collection; neither is it regularly dated nor does it have a complete inventory card. The arti-cle briefly describes the Hindi armament and presents the typology of Hindi katars and some characteristic types of decorations. On the basis of the analysis of the object (the steel of poor quality, corroded) and its decorations (imper-manent and inexpensive technique of surface damascening that involves applying flakes of gold) we can state that the exhibit may have been only an item intended for sale to travelers as an alleged trophy, which was a popular practice in the 18th century. The Grudziądz katar should be dated on the 18th or 19th century and surely is a significant collectible.
