Until recently, European integration has been progressing unevenly yet consistently in the direction of deepening the process. Brexit only seemingly opens the door towards faster integration. A number of economic and geopolitical threats combined with a lack of strong leadership in the European Union are responsible for leaving unresolved the dilemmas of setting the directions and pace of integration in the long-term horizon. The “muddling through” scenario remains the most probable.
