Poles and Polish navy in the 17th and 18th century presented in Dutch historiography
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
Poland in the 17th century was a typical continental state while the Dutch Republic was a naval power. These features are also visible in the 21st century. Large differences in the perception of Polish operations at sea in the 17th and 18th century are also noticeable in both countries’ historiographies. It especially relates to the Battle of Oliwa viewed by Polish historians as a significant event. In the Dutch historiography, on the other hand, this battle has been met with little response. The most important aspect of Polish operations at sea from the Dutch perspective is associated with Krzysztof Arciszewski. It is also worthwhile to mention a monograph based on unique reminiscences of Georg Naporra, published in Holland, which is somehow related to the history of Poland.
