Abstrakty
For years, the Gdańsk Wilhelm’s Theatre has been an object known only from cartographic sources and individual preserved photos and postcards. It was built in 1869 by Franz Jopseph Selonke (initially as Selonke's-Varieté-Theatre, and after a fire as Selonke Theatre). After numerous changes of owners and difficult period of World War I, the building burnt down completely in 1933 and was never rebuilt. In 2011, during rescue archaeological excavations carried out at ul. Sadowa 1 preceding the construction of a new housing estate, its relics were unearthed along with extremely interesting accompanying infrastructure. In addition, a significant medieval and post-medieval area was examined, within which layers, features and artefacts dated from the 15th century to the present day were identified, along with numerous traces of the development of the entire area in the early modern period into orchards and gardens.
