The article presents short descriptions of the life and works of three eminent Mongolian Buddhist scholars: C h a g d o r j a v - the Angi Lama of the Sung aimag of Ikh Khuree (1868-1934), G o n c h o g j a l t s a n, the Shireet Lama of Erdenezuu Monastery (1858-1937) and L u v s a n j a m t s, the Lama of the Ugalz Mountain (1878-1962). They all lived at the time of dramatic changes in Mongolia, which turned into communist country, starting with the Revolution in 1921. The new ideology reacted brutally towards Buddhism and almost annihilated it. These political events changed drastically the lives of the Mongolian Buddhist intellectuals. Not only were they persecuted, but their scholarly contributions were destroyed or lost, as well. The article describes our present knowledge about their fate.
