Josef Haslinger´s novel Opernball tells the story of a toxic gas assassination committed by an extreme right terrorist organisation on the Vienna Opera Ball. The author shows a society which is threatened by terrorism, and in which media, politics and violence are inseparably connected. The aim of this article is to analyse the society shown in this novel on the example of the narrators. Kurt Fraser, the Engineer, the inspector Fritz Amon, Claudia Röhler and Richard Schmidleitner are the key figures in the novel, from whose different perspectives the events are being reconstructed. They represent at the same time their social groups, whereby the multiperspectivity, as a central characteristic of the period novel, develops. This multiperspective narration is on the other hand an image of a divided society.
