After presenting the formal and legal position of communal museums, the author analyzes trumps and weaknesses of this kind of museum institutions in the context of the needs and interests of modern cultural tourists. The performance and cooperation between founding bodies, museums and tourism organizers, and all the problems that arise on the way, are thoroughly investigated in the case study of the communal museum in Trzemeszno.
