Microbial technologies gain a broad interest in oil industry. They are principally used in secondary oil recovery and as stimulation methods in reservoir engineering. There is a growing demand for cost-effective and environmentally safe solutions. Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR is a technology application which utilizes microorganisms to facilitate, increase or extend oil production from reservoir. Specially selected natural bacteria are capable of metabolizing hydrocarbons to produce organic solvents, biosurfactants, gases and weak acids that are known to be efficient in encouraging oil mobility. The other microbial technology deals with formation damage, a process caused by mineral particles and polymer compounds present in drilling fluids.
