Abstrakty
The author presents the genesis and evolution of quality management in an organization. He reviews briefly selected concepts of quality management, beginning with quality inspection (QI), through quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA) and finishing with total quality management (TQM). He also shows the contribution of quality management theoreticians and practicioners, stressing the achievements of Walter A. Shewhart, Harold Dodge, Harry Romig, William E. Deming, Joseph M. Juran, John S. Oakland. Finally the author focuses largely on TQM characteristics. In conclusion, he notices that quality management synthesis based on TQM philosophy allows stating that it is the most developed and complex concept of contemporary organization management whose characteristic is that due to the constant process of improvement it can be being implemented but not implemented. Such an approach of TQM philosophy shows that the concept in its idea is similar to an ideal process and as such it is a kind of model, that we should strive for and which should be taken into consideration in the process of organization management.
