A review is given on the application of carbon materials to the construction of humidity sensors. The metioned carbon materials are obtained from polyfurfuly alcohol by a two-step process: spray pyrolysis and vacuum carbonization. Carbons obtained by thermal treatment posses an unique feature: their electronic properties like electric conductivity, work function, etc. may be adjusted to certain needs by means of an appropriate carbonization temperature. Several activating processes like oxidation, sulfonization, reduction, etc. usually create surface functionalities of different type like hydroxyl, carboxylic, amine, sulphonic groups. The currnet report describes an attempt to combine these two unique features of carbon and carbon films in particular aiming at manufacturing of a semiconducting material of adjustable water adsorption properties. Such an adsorbrnt is supposed to be a valuable material for the construction of humidity sensors.
