Geochemical and biogeochemical studies in Magurski (Magura), Świętokrzyski (Holy Cross Mts), and Wigierski (Wigry) National Parks with analysis of variance (ANOVA)

Abstrakty
Geochemical and biogeochemical studies in national parks can be used for assessing anthropogenic influence on these relatively natural areas, These studies, funded by “National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management", were carried out in Magurski, OEwiętokrzyski (Holy Cross Mts) and Wigierski National Parks (SE, south-central and NE Poland) during 2001–2002. The study areas were selected on the basis of diverse anthropopressure. In all, 16 investigation sites were selected in each of national parks using ”barbell“ design that provided detailed statistical information on the concentrations of elements. The soil, rock and plant samples were analyzed for 22–28 elements and pH, as well as pine needles for sulfur and carbon stable isotope ratios. In addition, studies of pine needle surfaces and dust particles were performed with a Surface Scanning Electron Microscope. The obtained results enabled to present the geochemical characteristics of the study areas and to assess the role of natural and anthropogenic pollution sources in the recent geochemical element balance.
