In this paper we'll present some of the possibilities of the Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) process with two practical industrial examples. Because short time-to-market and low costs of products are key elements for many companies, we'll present the justification of laser sintering technology for practical Rapid Tooling applications in comparison to High Speed Milling (HSM) together with Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) and in comparison to CNC process, based on costs and time analysis. Furthermore the Zasavje Regional Technological Centre's marketing strategy for DMLS will be presented. Since there are a number of problems at the introduction of DMLS in the industry, the paper also presents some of the key problems in the marketing of DMLS to the Slovenian industry.
