Most problems which occur today in steam turbine systems are not as a result of the quality of the oil being used, since the premium quality grades are produced from highly refindet, specially selected base stocks and additives to meet the stringent turbine manufacturers' requirements. Therefore, more important is right using oils and limitation or elimination negative processes influencing oil properties during it's using. This article describes the most occurred processes, causes of problems in steam turbine systems, having an effect on important oil properties, i.e. air release, foaming and demulsibility.
