Abstrakty
The aim of this contribution is to propose a new approach to the study of friction on geological faults. Some of existing models of friction and the sliding rules, which interrelate contact stresses with the slip velocity, are briefly reexamined. Such sliding rules are formulated in a suddifferential form. Models of friction on faults involving internal parameters are also investigated. Initial-boundary value problems are formulated in the strong and variationals forms. By applying Green's function the variational formulation for finding normal and tangential contact stresses is proposed. Our considerations are limited to the quasi-static case involving friction. A numerical procedure for finding these stresses is also discussed.
