Abstrakty
The brahiopod genus Thysanotos Mickwitz, 1896, occurs in Early Ordovican rocks of NW Estonia, Germany (Saxony, Bavaria, Lausitz), Bochemia (Barrandian), Russia (S Ural) and Poland (the Kielce region of the Holy Cross Mts). It is represented chiefly by a single species, namely Thysanotos siluricus (Eichwald, 1840). Only in the Barrandian area of Bochemia, a slightly older form has been found, named Thysanotos primus (Koliha, 1924). Valces and internal moulds of the genus Thysanotos found in the lower part of the Międzygórz Sandstone Formation, Holy Cross Mountains (Poland) have been analysed. They occur together with conodonts the Paltodus deltifer lindström, 1955, and P. deltifer pristinus (Viira, 1970) indicating a Late Tremadocian age. With the exception of NW Estonia, the genus Thysanotos is distributed in a terrane assemblage attached to the Gondawana supercontinent. This suggest that the primary area of the development of this genus was closter to the Mediterranean province than the peropherics of the BAltica palaeocontinent.
