The paper presents examples of diagnostic tests of hydrogenerators' windings" insulation (rated parameters of hydrogenerators: 2,09 MVA; 15,75 kV; 166.7 rpm). The testing procedures have been described before |3], The tests included: - measurement of insulation resistance R(60) (for steady-state conditions) vs. supply voltage (see Fig. 1) - measurement of voltage recovery curve U(od)=f(t); this was measured after the system had been earlier charged with 10 kV voltage, and then short-circuited for 30 seconds (the tests were repeated for 15 kV and short-circuit time 60 seconds - see Fig.2) - measurement of leakage current versus time, after a unit step voltage of 10 kV was applied - see Fig.3. Parameters of insulation system have been defined on the basis of above tests and set out in Table 1. The assessment of insulation's technical condition of the generators was also conducted independently by experts sent by generators' manufacturer. These experts evaluated the condition of insulation by taking out the windings and careful examination of insulation both in slot portions and in end windings. The final assessment of insulation's technical condition done with these two methods is identical.
