Magnetostriction is a property of ferrous alloys in which the material will exhibit strain in the presence of magnetic field. Next to the reluctance forces, magnetostriction is potential cause of additional noise from electric machines. Implementation results on a permanent magnet motor show the magnetostrictive stress and deformation.
